Put like terms on the same side of the =. You must switch the sign (+/-) of any number that you move.
7x-51=4x
7x-4x=51
3x=51
x=51/3
final answer: x=17

What is the midpoint of a segment in the complex plane with endpoints at 3 – 2i and 17 – 8i?
chubhunter [2.5K]
In the complex plane, the two given points are represented by (3,-2) and (17,-8). The midpoint would then be

\left(\dfrac{3+17}2,\dfrac{-2+(-8)}2\right)=(10,-5)

which represents the complex number 10-5i.

(1−√(5))×(2−√(5)) <br><img src="https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=%281%20%2B%204%20%5Csqrt%7B10%7D%20%29%282%20-%20%20%5Csqrt%7B10%7D%20%2

To simplify these expressions, you can either use a calculator (which I'm assuming your teacher doesn't want you to do) or FOIL (distribute).

The first one would be:

(1- \sqrt{5}) (2- \sqrt{5}) \newline =(1)(2)+(1)(- \sqrt{5} )+(- \sqrt{5})(2)+(- \sqrt{5})(- \sqrt{5}) \newline =2- \sqrt{5}-2 \sqrt{5}+5 \newline =7-3 \sqrt{5}

The second one would be:

(1+4 \sqrt{10})( 2- \sqrt{10}) \newline =(1)(2)+(1)(- \sqrt{10})+(4 \sqrt{10} )(2)  +(4 \sqrt{10})(- \sqrt{10}) \newline =2-\sqrt{10}+8 \sqrt{10} -40 \newline =-38+7 \sqrt{10}

Vijay's sister Miranda says 15/18 of the 4 hours of music is rock and hip-hop.Is she correct? Explain how you know? Thanks
Sonbull [250]
First, convert 1 1/4 into an improper fraction which is 5/4
Then, convert 5/4 making sure that the denominator is 8 in order to compare it with 5/8. (5/4 = 10/8)
Since you now know that 5/4 is equal to 10/8, now you can compare and see how much bigger 10/8 is than 5/8.
10/8 - 5/8 = 5/8

So, 1 1/4 is 5/8 greater than 5/8
