Answer:

Darlene and Mary will be on the same page after 1 hour.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Number of pages Darlene has already completed = 72

Rate at which  Darlene continues  working = 14 pages per hour

Number of pages Mary has already completed = 81

Rate at which Mary continues  working = 5 pages per hour

To Find:

Time after which the students  will be on the same page =?

Solution:

let the time after which the students  will be on the same page bex X

then

After X hours, number of pages completed by Darlene will be

72 + 14(x)--------------------------------------------------(1)

After X hours, number of pages completed by Mary will be

81 + 5(x) ---------------------------------------------------(2)

Equating the equations (1) and (2)

72 + 14(x) = 81 + 5(x)

72 +14x = 81 + 5x

solving the equation,

14x - 5x = 81-72

9x= 9

x=\frac{9}{9}

x=1

If x=9 units, y= 3 units and h= 8 units find the area of the rhombus shown about using decomposition
PIT_PIT [208]

Answer:

72 sq. units

Step-by-step explanation:

Find the diagram attached

The rhombus is the area of the two triangles and the rectangle

Area of triangle = 1/2 * base * height

Area of triangle = 1/2 * y * h

Area of triangle = 1/2 * 3 * 8

Area of triangle = 3 * 4

Area of triangle = 12 sq.units

Area of  2 triangle = 2(12) = 24 sq. units

Area of the rectangle = length * width]

Area of the rectangle = h (x-y)

Area of the rectangle = 8(9-3)

Area of the rectangle = 8 * 6

Area of the rectangle = 48 sq. units

Area of the rhombus = 24 + 48

Area of the rhombus = 72 sq. units
