All passenger immigrants who arrived by boat were processed at the Ellis Island in the 1880s. People were processed through their papers and their general health who were directly verified by American Doctors who were on duty at that time. As the 1800s came to a closed there were approximately 1.25 million immigrants that were processed at Ellis Island and the numbers kept adding up until the 1920s.

Many settlements and farms were built near the rivers and tributaries. This would allow them to use the waterways like highways. In areas that were large enough, some would create plantations. The prairies would be turned into rice patties. Most people would live in the cities like New Orleans or Lafayette.
