Cyanobacteria are a division of Gram-negative aquatic bacteria capable of photosynthesis. About two-thirds of the species studied are capable of stabilizing nitrogen and are therefore involved in the nitrogen cycle in the biosphere.
These cyanophytes contain three pigments, green, blue and red.
