The whiskey tax was the first tax on the new country that was from the government. If this tax was not enforced, the newly made federal government would not be able to get onto its own feet. The rebellion being put down was important because it showed that though we were free from the British government, you still had to answer to the American. If George Washington did not use force, then the citizens would believe it was okay to not listen and rebel against anything that upset them.

Farmers already struggle very much when it comes to their money. During the war, when things were already highly taxed, it was very hard to make a living. Many people could not afford highly priced goods, but the farmers needed to make the price higher so they could pay their own needs. With the whiskey tax, this made it very hard for farmers to buy and or sell what they needed to make a living.
