But Johnson vetoed  this  bill in June 25, 1868, without giving any valid reason.

His action was deemed as controversial at that time. Many people believe that it's based on racism. He didn't want the African American community to improve their life.

In the end, the house chose to call for President Johnson's impeachment. They manage to get it with a 126 to 47.
