Which of these passages would most likely be part of an expository text? Passage 1 What makes weather? Earth's temperature is pa

rtly responsible. Water vapor in the air moves from one place to another depending on temperature. Warm air rises, and cold air sinks. As the warm air around the equator rises, it moves toward the poles and is cooled. The cold air around the poles also moves toward the equator. While this is happening, Earth is spinning. The spin of the planet is called its rotation. The rotation of Earth is also important to weather. As Earth spins, the sun can warm only part of it at any one time. The other part faces away from the sun. It is cooler. As a result, the rotation of Earth creates constantly changing temperatures. Passage 2 My plan is to refurbish cars and then turn around and sell them to people. There are a million cars that are dumped at wreckage lots, and I can use the money I get from my summer job to buy a car and the parts I need for it. Junkyards are a gold mine for parts, and they are cheap there. I can spend my free time putting the cars back together, and then I can sell the car to someone for a lot more than it cost me to fix it. I first learned how to work on cars years ago with training from my uncle. He was an expert mechanic on his farm back in the 1930s. Learning from him was one of the most beneficial and interesting experiences I had while living in California. Passage 3 Hardware: The parts on your UltraPro Laptop are guaranteed to be free from manufacturer defects for a period of one year. If you experience problems with your UltraPro, contact the help line at 1-800-555-1234. Software: The factory-installed software on your UltraPro Laptop is guaranteed for a period of 90 days. Passage 4 Until this moment, I had looked upon the valley as my grave. I had seen no possibility of getting out of it alive. But now I found courage and began to plan my escape. First, I picked up all the large diamonds I could find and stored them in my leather bag. This I tied securely to my belt. I then chose the piece of meat that seemed best for my purpose. With my turban I tied meat firmly to my back. This done, I laid face down and awaited the coming of the eagles. I soon heard the flapping of their mighty wings above me. Then I had the joy of feeling one of them seize my piece of meat, and me with it. We rose slowly toward its nest, into which it dropped me.

Answer:

Passage 1

Explanation:

Expository texts are clear, concise, and organized. They aim to educate readers of the text relaying facts, which categorizes them as non-fiction. As you can see in your question Passage 1 is more about educating readers about Weather. It explains the process that the Earth undergoes to explain how different weather occurs.

Explain why A Long Walk to Water is an appropriate title for Nya's story, and why it is an appropriate title for Salva's story.
bija089 [108]
Not sure if you are looking for a paragraph or a whole essay, but here is something you can start with and elaborate on:

A Long Walk To Water is an appropriate title for Nya’s story because it highlights her daily, extended journey to water in a place where she is not safe. Two things such as water and safety that we take for granted, Nya has to travel long hours and even get hurt in the process for. It shows her journey as a child who has to work hard for necessity.

A Long Walk To Water is an appropriate title for Salva because it depicts his story as a refugee. As Salva goes through dangerous situations, we see him develop as a person and how these situations affected him. It was a long walk, but he eventually found himself to be helping children that would go through the same thing as him. It was a long walk to refreshing, calming water for both Nya and Salva.

Read the excerpt from "The Most Dangerous Game." Rainsford's first impression was that the man was singularly handsome; his seco
oksano4ka [1.4K]
An impression means that there is an opinion taking place, and is often not what you would call facts.

1. Almost bizarre quality about the general's face.

One is opinionated, Rainsford finding him to be bizarre. It cannot be considered anything other than an impression because finding something to be weird is not something every person can agree on. This is an impression Rainsford had from the actions General Zaroff took.

4. The face of an aristocrat

Similarly, number four is also opinionated. There is no real "face" to an aristocrat, and so the line merely implies that Rainsford felt as if with a face like that, General Zaroff could be an aristocrat. This means that this one is also an impression Rainsford had been able to draw from observing him.

Numbers two, three, five, and six are not the correct answer. These answer choices do not provide an impression, and instead explain what is happening in a scene. Anybody in a room would be able to agree that the Cossack had put away his pistol, and that the general had turned to him and made a sign. Numbers two and three are both describing how General Zaroff looks, and although it seems a bit personally detailed, anybody would be able to look at his face and point out that Zaroff has thick eyebrows, black hair, and dark eyes.

This is why the only applicable choices would be one and four.
