Use the following information when answering the corresponding question. Two populations of birds with somewhat different colora

tion live on two different islands. When birds from the two populations are brought together, they produce young whose appearance is intermediate between the two parents. These offspring can successfully breed with each other or with birds from either parent population, and all offspring of these pairings appear intermediate to various degrees. According to the biological species concept, the two populations on different islands are
A. Different species, under the morphological species concept.
B. Different species, under the biological species concept.

Answer:

Option (A).

Explanation:

The species has been classified according to their morphology, habitat and reproduction criteria. The most accepted species concept is Biological species concept.

The population of birds have different coloration and their offspring produce the parents are intermediate colors. Here, the species of birds has been categorized under the morphological species concept.

Thus, the correct answer is option (A).

A punch is painful, while a hug is not, because a punch produces _______ action potentials from each sensory neuron. A) stronger
WARRIOR [948]

Answer:

B) more frequent

Explanation:

This occurs because a punch produces more frequent action potentials from each sensory neuron. This is only caused when there are rapid and sudden changes. A punch is fast and causes very sudden changes when the punch comes into contact with the human body. This therefore, causes these fast and sudden changes which fire very frequently from each sensory neuron. A hug is soft and does not affect the human body in such a sudden way so it does not cause frequent action potentials.

List and describe three factors that could possibly affect catalase activity.
Pachacha [2.7K]
Catalase is an enzyme which is present in every living organism that is exposed to oxygen. Catalase's activity is affected by temperature, pH and the concentration of substrate. In catalase's case, the substrate is the hydrogen peroxide. If any of these factors change, the effectiveness of the catalase to catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide will deteriorate. If the temperature and pH change, the shape of the enzyme will change as well. This denaturation of the enzyme will obstruct the hydrogen peroxide molecules to fit in the catalase's active site.

There is less energy available to consumers at higher levels in a food chain. Why?
ladessa [460]

Answer:

Energy decreases as it moves up trophic levels because energy is lost as metabolic heat when the organisms from one trophic level are consumed by organisms from the next level.

Consider the following pairs of organisms: large predators and small predators; large herbivores and small herbivores; and migra
Nastasia [14]

Answer:

Non-migratory animals and small herbivores

Explanation:

Habitat fragmentation is the process by which a previously continuous stretch of land becomes fragmented into smaller patches that are separated, causing the environment to be broken up, and to become discontinuous. For example, humans chopping down patches of trees in forests.

Animals that cannot freely move around (non-migratory mammals) will be most affected by this since they cannot simply move between the isolated pieces of land. Smaller herbivores will also be affected, because they generally do not freely move around and cover large spaces like large herbivores or predators.

Why will a decrease in light intensity result in a decrease in the rate of photosynthesis?
SVEN [57.7K]

Answer:

3. A decrease in light intensity means a decrease in the energy required for photosynthesis to take place.

Explanation:

The greater the light intensity, the more energy supplied to the plant and therefore the faster the light-dependent stage of photosynthesis can occur.
