Running the army
The Assembly does have the duty of passing laws, acting as supreme court and choosing generals for the navy. However, the assembly does not have the duty to run the army. This specifical duty is upon the president, as he is the chief of the army in charge, while the Assembly has more legislative power than executive.
The economy of India was transformed by the British in several ways, but perhaps the greatest way was that they transformed into a market economy with government oversight.
The federal and state government makes actions that affects our lives. The federal government would make the big decisions (such as making littering illegal) and the state government will handle local things (such as legalizing marijuana in Mississippi). Here's some examples:

STATE GOVERNMENT
