Answer:

The largest possible volume of the box is 500,000 cm³

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the a side of the square base = x

let the height of the box, = h

volume of the box, v = hx²

Surface area of the box, A = 4hx + x²

                                         30000 = 4hx + x²

make h the subject of the formula;

     4hx + x^2 = 30000\\\\4hx  = 30000 -x^2\\\\h = \frac{30000 -x^2}{4x}

Volume of the box, V = hx²

V = h*x^2 = (\frac{30000-x^2}{4x} )x^2\\\\V = \frac{30000x^2 -x^4}{4x} \\\\V = \frac{30000x^2}{4x} - \frac{x^4}{4x} \\\\V = 7500x- \frac{x^3}{4}

At maximum value of V, dv/dx = 0

\frac{dv}{dx} = 7500 - \frac{3}{4} x^2\\\\0 = 7500 - \frac{3}{4} x^2\\\\\frac{3}{4} x^2 = 7500\\\\x^2 = 10000\\\\x = \sqrt{10000} \\\\x = 100

Substitute in the value of x to determine the maximum volume, V;

V = 7500x - \frac{x^3}{4} \\\\V = 7500(100) - \frac{1}{4} (100)^3\\\\V = 750000- 250000\\\\V = 500,000 \ cm^3

Therefore, the largest possible volume of the box is 500,000 cm³

Fred flips a coin, spins the spinner, and rolls a standard number cube. Find the probability that the coin will show tails, the
Inessa05 [86]

Answer:

The probability that the coin will show tails, the spinner will land on yellow or green (out of yellow, green, blue), and the cube will show a three is \frac{4}{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Fred flips a coin, spins the spinner, and rolls a standard number cube.

To find : The probability that the coin will show tails, the spinner will land on yellow or green (out of yellow, green, blue), and the cube will show a three ?

Solution :

First we find probability one by one,

1) Flips a coin - Head, Tail

Total number of outcome = 2

Favorable outcome (getting a tail) = 1

Probability that the coin will show tails is P(T)=\frac{1}{2}

2) Spins the spinner - yellow, green, blue

Total number of outcome = 3

Favorable outcome (land on yellow or green) = 2

Probability that the spinner will land on yellow or green P(S)=\frac{2}{3}

3) Rolls a standard number cube - 1,2,3,4,5,6

Total number of outcome = 6

Favorable outcome (show a three) = 1

Probability that the cube will show a three P(C)=\frac{1}{6}

The probability that the coin will show tails, the spinner will land on yellow or green (out of yellow, green, blue), and the cube will show a three is

P=P(T)+P(S)+P(C)

P=\frac{1}{2}+\frac{2}{3}+\frac{1}{6}

P=\frac{3+4+1}{6}

P=\frac{8}{6}

P=\frac{4}{3}

Therefore, The probability that the coin will show tails, the spinner will land on yellow or green (out of yellow, green, blue), and the cube will show a three is \frac{4}{3}

A university administrator was interested in determining if there was a difference in the distance students travel to get from c
eduard

Answer:

1) Fail to reject the Null hypothesis

2) We do not have sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean distance students traveled to school from their current residence was different for males and females.

Step-by-step explanation:

A university administrator wants to test if there is a difference between the distance men and women travel to class from their current residence. So, the hypothesis would be:

H_{o}: \mu_{F}-\mu_{M}=0\\\\ H_{a}: \mu_{F}-\mu_{M}\neq 0

The results of his tests are:

t-value = -1.05

p-value = 0.305

Degrees of freedom = df = 21

Based on this data we need to draw a conclusion about test. The significance level is not given, but the normally used levels of significance are 0.001, 0.005, 0.01 and 0.05

The rule of the thumb is:

  • If p-value is equal to or less than the significance level, then we reject the null hypothesis
  • If p-value is greater than the significance level, we fail to reject the null hypothesis.

No matter which significance level is used from the above mentioned significance levels, p-value will always be larger than it. Therefore, we fail to reject the null hypothesis.

Conclusion:

We do not have sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean distance students traveled to school from their current residence was different for males and females.

Solve each system by substitution.<br> 1) y = 2x + 2<br> y = -5x + 16
dalvyx [7]

Answer:

y = 6

x = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

rearrange the first equation in terms of x

x = (y - 2)/2

substiute x in the second equation

y = -5[(y-2)/2] +16

Now simpilify and solve for y

y = (-5y + 10)/2 +16

y = -5/2y + 5 + 16

y + 5/2y = 5 + 16

3.5y = 21

y = 6

Now substitue y in the first equation to solve for x

x = (6 - 2)/2

x = 2
