There has been plenty of research on this. The human brain gains more information if the notes are written down compared to reading on a screen due to the brain being more active (cognitive) in the writing process. For example, people have a hard time reading a writing cursive due to the skill of having to think before you write and read VS a computer of where you just need to press the letters.
