Glucose and oxygen are used by cells to produce energy for muscle action - this process occurs within each cell. Your new workou

t partner tells you that the supplement he's taking allows him to produce more energy (and have a better workout) because it increases oxygen delivery by increasing the number of cell membrane protein carriers for oxygen (such protein carriers transport substances from the outside of cells to the inside across the cell membrane). What would you say to him?

This situation listed in the question will not happen this way. The energy of cells works differently from the problem, as oxygen is fat-soluble and therefore requires no membrane protein to be transported across the cell membrane. In that case then, the supplement would not be able to increase the amount of oxygen in the cells.

explain why the top of an energy pyramid does not have an arrow showing energy going back down to the bottom.
SCORPION-xisa [38]
The answer to your question is that all of the energy is ultimately radiated into empty outer space as heat. The second law of thermodynamics mandates that all processes that involve the transfer of energy MUST radiate a portion of this energy into space as waste heat. This is why when you run down the street you get hot and sweaty, and this is why automobiles MUST have a functioning radiator and nuclear power stations MUST have evaporation cooling towers or else be located near a large body of water to exchange excess waste heat into, etc., etc. It is also true that the transfer of energy at each step up the food chain is very inefficient. They say it takes around 50 lbs of corn to produce one pound of beef, and it probably takes 20-30 pounds of beef to produce one pound of human tissue. The rest of the energy just goes into your living room as radiated body heat. I hope this helps.

Why is the phloem in a leaf important to the roots of a plant?
suter [353]

Answer:

The correct answer is A it transport the food generated by photosynthesis.

Explanation:

Both xylem and phloem are the examples of vascular tissue present in plants.xylem helps in the transport of water from root to different parts of the plants.

Whereas phloem helps in the transport of photo synthate from mesophyll tissue to sieve element companion cell complex. The transport of photosynthate to different non photo sythetic parts of a plant involves both symplastic and appoplastic pathway.

Symplastic pathway is a passive process depending on the pressure gradient for the transport of solutes through the plasmodesmata which connect 2 adjacent plant cells.

Appoplastic pathway is an active transport process occuring against the concentration gradient which does not involve plasmodesmata.
