The post-war goal of the United States that created tension with the USSR was, Option 3: the US push to promote democracy around the world. The reasoning for this is because the US was a primarily capitalist country while the USSR was a communist country. The two ideologies clashed with one another causing tension between the two major world super powers.

The United States and the Soviet Union competed with one another for global supremacy in the following ways:
1. Supporting local rebels in countries in order to make new allies
2. Spreading propaganda through teachers and intellectuals. Mostly concentrated on capitalism, democracy and communism.
3. Providing weapons and money to allies
4. Carrying out proxy wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, South America etc.
