Equation  By Substitution/Elimination  Method:

y   =    -3x    +    4;      y    =    4x     -    10

Let's solve your system by substitution.

y     =     −3x     +    4;       y     =    4x    −    10

Step: Solve       y      =     −3x    +     4     for y:

y       =      −3x       +      4

Step: Substitute      −3x      +    4     for     y     in     y    =     4x     −    10:

y     =     4x    −    10

−3x      +     4     =     4x    −    10

−3x      +     4    +        −4x       =4x     −   10    +    −4x   (Add -4x to both sides):

−7x      +     4     =     −10

−7x      +     4     +      −4     =     −   10    +    −4     (Add -4 to both sides):

-7x        =      -14

-7x/ -7     =     -14/ -7   ( Divide both sides by  -7):

x      =      2

Step 2:  Substitute         2        for     x      in       y     =     −3x    +    4:

y      =       −3x     +    4

y       =    (−3)(2)     +     4

y       =        −2         (Simplify both sides of the equation)

Answer:

x    =     2       and       y       =      −2

Hope that helps!!!!

A wallet is marked with a sale sticker saying it is 76% off. The original price is $57.41. What is the sale price?
liubo4ka [24]
Answer: The sales price is $13.78

The original price is $57.41. It is selling at 76% off.
First, we need to find the discount. To find the discount, we need to find out what is 76% of $57.41

-------------------------------------------------
Find discount
-------------------------------------------------
76% x $57.41               ← change the percentage to decimal

= 0.76 x 57.41

= $43. 63 (nearest hundredth)

Now that we know the discount, we can find the sales price by subtracting the discount from the original price.

-------------------------------------------------
Find sales price
-------------------------------------------------
$57.41 - $43.63 = $13.78

-------------------------------------------------
The sales price is $13.78.

The perimeter of the rectangular playing field is 430 yards.The length of the field is 5 yards less than triple the width. What
Ad libitum [116K]

Answer:

Length = 160 and width = 55 yards

Step-by-step explanation:

Perimeter =  2L + 2W  where L = the length and W = the width.

L = 3W - 5   (given).

So substituting for L is the formula for the perimeter:-

2(3W - 5) + 2W = 430

6W - 10 + 2W = 430

8W = 440

W = 55 yards.

So the Length L = [430 - 2(55]) / 2  = 160 yards.
