A set of DNA, including all of its genes makes up genome of an organisms. Each genome contains all of the information needed to build and maintain that organism. The population of endangered species is small which suffer from reduced genetic diversity through inbreeding.

In conservation genomics, the study of genetic diversity in all genes is carried out for better understand their implications to ecology, health, and disease. This random loss of genetic diversity in diminishing populations is a process known as ‘genetic drift’ and is further complicated by ‘inbreeding depression’, where related individuals breed with each other which results in further loss of genetic diversity.  

Using genome editing techniques to carefully reintroduce the lost genetic diversity back into the current, endangered population.

a. The genotype of a homozygous white eyed long winged female would be Vg+Vg+XrXr. We denote the white allele as recessive (r) because the XY male only has one copy and yet has red eyes, so the red eye trait (R) must be dominant. A homozygous red eyed vestigial winged male would have be VgVgXRY. The possible gametes for the female are Vg+Xr only. For the male, the possible gametes are VgXR or VgY

The attached punnett square shows the results of the cross. The females will all be Vg+VgXRXr. The males will all be Vg+VgXRY (must inherit Y from father). That means they will all  have normal length wings, the males will have white eyes and the females will have red eyes.

Answer:

Yeah, so basically the image is showing restriction enzymes. The job of restriction enzymes is mainly involved in research when scientists use them for cloning human genes. But that's besides the point...

Main thing you have to understand is that restriction enzymes cut at very specific places along DNA sequences. If you look at the restriction enzyme Rsa 1, you can notice that it cuts only between a thymine nucleotide base and an adenine nucleotide base. Next, if ya look at Sty 1 (be careful b/c W can represent adenine or thymine), it cuts only between two directly adjacent cytosine nucleotide bases!

SO.... if we go to Rsa 1, we can find the answers by dividing up the sequences between the pattern we saw in the gray box. It only cuts between adenine and thymine bases. Based on that, we can find the number of fragments created, and the segment lengths (basically just like how many nucleotide bases are in each strand). Hope ya found this helpful!
