The Gaza Strip is a self-governing Palestinian territory on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, that borders Egypt on the southwest for 11 kilometers (6.8 mi) and Israel on the east and north along a 51 km (32 mi) border. Gaza and the West Bank are claimed by the State of Palestine.
The Gaza Strip is an area located in the Middle East, and together with the Western Jordan part of Palestine, makes up the Palestinian Territories. The land strip is named after the most important city of Gaza.
The Gaza Strip has an area of approximately 360 km² and borders on Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea. The most important cities are Gaza, Rafah, Abasan, Khan Younis and Dayr al Balah. The coastline is approximately 40 km long, the border with Egypt approximately 12 km and the border with Israel approximately 59 km long. It has a population of nearly 2 million people.
