Answer:

a. What is Riverbend’s deductible DRD assuming it owns 10 percent of Hobble Corporation?

  • $250,000 x 70% = $175,000

b. Assuming the facts in part (a), what is Riverbend’s effective tax rate on the dividend?

  • $15,750 / $250,000 = 6.3%

current corporate tax rate = 21%, ($250,000 - $175,000) x 21% = $15,750

c. What is Riverbend’s DRD assuming it owns 51 percent of Hobble Corporation?

  • $250,000 x 80% = $200,000

d. Assuming the facts in part (c), what is Riverbend’s marginal tax rate on the dividend?

  • 21%

e. What is Riverbend’s DRD assuming it owns 87 percent of Hobble Corporation (and is part of the same affiliated group)?

  • $250,000

f. Assuming the facts in part (e), what is Riverbend’s marginal tax rate on the dividend?

  • 0%

Explanation:

the dividends received deduction:

  • less than 20% stake, 70% deduction
  • stake between 20-80%, 80% deduction
  • more than 80% stake, 100% deduction

What is the rate of interest on a loan of $2,000, for 284 days, if the amount of interest is $93.37, using the exact interest me
vesna_86 [32]

Exact interest method is using 365 days instead of 360.

We are going to use the formula: I = Prt, we will derived the formula of rate.

r = I /Pt would be our formula, plugging in our amounts.

r = 93.37 / 2000 / (284/365)

= 93.37 / 2000 (0.7781)

= 93.37 / 1556.1643

= 0.06 or 6% when converted to percent.

To check:

I = Prt

= 2000 x 0.06 x 284/365

= 120 x 0.7781

= 93.37

The Bureau of Labor Statistics produces data on unemployment based on the number of people collecting unemployment insurance. a.
Ira Lisetskai [31]

Answer:

FALSE

Explanation:

A person is considered unemployed if he / she does not have a job and has searched for a job within the last 4 weeks

Unemployment rate = (number of unemployed / labour force) x 100

To collect data on unemployment, The Bureau of Labor Statistics conducts a survey every month known as the Current Population Survey (CPS).

types of unemployment

structural unemployment is an unemployment that occurs as a result of changes in the economy. These changes can be as a result of changes in technology, polices or competition. Structural unemployment tends to be permanent.

The geologist lost his hob permanently due to increase in wages (polices)

Frictional unemployment: the period of time a person is unemployed from the period he leaves his current job and the time he gets another job. Eg. when a real estate agent who leaves a job in Texas and searches for a similar, higher-paying job in California.

Voluntary unemployment: e.g. worker at a fast-food restaurant who quits work and attends college.

Cyclical unemployment: it occurs as a result of fluctuations in the economy. Unemployment would be high in a downturn and low in a boom

Jimmer’s nominal income will go up by 10 percent next year. Inflation is expected to be – 2 percent next year. By approximately
kompoz [17]

Answer:

Nominal interest rate (n) = 10% = 0.10

Inflation rate (i) = -2% = -0.02

Real interest rate (r) = ?

Application of Fisher's Equation

(I + n) =   (1 + r)(1 + i)

(1 + 0.10)  = (1 + r)(1 + -0.02)

1.10 = (1 + r)(0.98)

1.10 = 1 + r

0.98

1.1224 = 1 + r

1.1224 - 1 = r

r = 0.1224 = 12.24%

Jimmer's real income will change by 12.24% next year.

Explanation:

In the determination of the rate of change in real income, there is need to apply Fisher's equation. The nominal rate and inflation rate have been given, thus, we will make the real rate the subject of the formula.

Ms. Pay, who has a 40.8 percent marginal tax rate on interest income (37 percent income tax 3.8 percent Medicare contribution ta
Butoxors [25]

Answer:

After tax cash flow    $44,281.60

After tax cash flow   ($30,518.40)

After tax cash flow   $8856.32

Explanation:

In the first case when the interest income of $74,800 ,the after-tax cash flow would be taxed as follows"

before tax cash flow   $74,800.00

tax at 40.8%*$74,800 ($30,518.40)

After tax cash flow      $44,281.60

If the entire interest income is re-invested after tax cash flow is computed thus:

before tax cash flow   $0

tax at 40.8%*$74,800 ($30,518.40)

After tax cash flow      ($30,518.40)

If the entire interest income represents the original issue discount,which is the difference between the face value and the issue price,after tax cash flow is computed thus:

The OID is taxable as if it accrues over the duration of the investment(bonds),hence a portion of the OID would be assessed to tax each year (assume the duration of investment is 5 years)

Annual portion of OID=$74,800/5

before tax cash flow $14,960 .00

tax at 40.8%*$74,800  ($6103.68 )

After tax cash flow         $8856.32

After tax cash flow      $44,281.60
