Du Bois believed that African-American people needed the opportunity to have the education to allow them to achieve and develop their leadership. Du Bois usually protested against racism as well as the discrimination that existed in education and employment.

He always defended people of color's interests and he helped in the organization of many Pan-African Congresses which pretended to achieve the African colonies' independence from the power imposed by Europeans. He also traveled a lot through Europe, Africa, and Asia.
