How to group numbers in list into groups of number of digits?

Mathematics

This looks a lot more like a computer programming problem than a math problem.

If the numbers are integers, adding 1 to the integer part of the base-10 logarithm will tell you the number of digits the number has. (Be careful with 0.)

Once you have a list that associates a number of digits with the number, you can categorize by the number of digits.

In short, take a number from your input list, count its digits, then assign it to an output list according to the number of digits it has.

_____

Another way to do this is to sort your numbers, then identify the numbers less than 10 (1-digit), less than 100 (2-digits), less than 1000 (3-digits), and so on.

Answer:

A

Step-by-step explanation:

Using the recursive formula with a₁ = 5 , then

a₂ = 2a₁ - 7 = 2(5) - 7 = 10 - 7 = 3

a₃ = 2a₂ - 7 = 2(3) - 7 = 6 - 7 = - 1

a₄ = 2a₃ - 7 = 2(- 1) - 7 = - 2 - 7 = - 9 → A

How do you factorize p2 + 2p - 3 =0
julia-pushkina [17]

Answer:

Solution

p = {-3, 1}

Step-by-step explanation:

Simplifying

p2 + 2p + -3 = 0

Reorder the terms:

-3 + 2p + p2 = 0

Solving

-3 + 2p + p2 = 0

Solving for variable 'p'.

Factor a trinomial.

(-3 + -1p)(1 + -1p) = 0

Subproblem 1

Set the factor '(-3 + -1p)' equal to zero and attempt to solve:

Simplifying

-3 + -1p = 0

Solving

-3 + -1p = 0

Move all terms containing p to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add '3' to each side of the equation.

-3 + 3 + -1p = 0 + 3

Combine like terms: -3 + 3 = 0

0 + -1p = 0 + 3

-1p = 0 + 3

Combine like terms: 0 + 3 = 3

-1p = 3

Divide each side by '-1'.

p = -3

Simplifying

p = -3

Subproblem 2

Set the factor '(1 + -1p)' equal to zero and attempt to solve:

Simplifying

1 + -1p = 0

Solving

1 + -1p = 0

Move all terms containing p to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add '-1' to each side of the equation.

1 + -1 + -1p = 0 + -1

Combine like terms: 1 + -1 = 0

0 + -1p = 0 + -1

-1p = 0 + -1

Combine like terms: 0 + -1 = -1

-1p = -1

Divide each side by '-1'.

p = 1

Simplifying

p = 1

Solution

p = {-3, 1}
