Evaluate 6²-7²+8²-9²+..+998²-999²
Llana [10]

Answer:

-499,485.

Step-by-step explanation:

We can transform this to an arithmetic series by working it out in pairs:

6^2 - 7^2 = (6-7)(6+7) = -13

8^2 - 9^2 = (8-9)*8+9) = -17

10^2 - 11^2 = -1 * 21 = -21 and so on

The common difference is -4.

The number of terms in this series is (998 - 6) / 2 + 1

= 992/2 + 1 = 497.

Sum of n terms of an A.S:

= n/2 [2a1 + (n - 1)d

Here a1 = -13, n = 497, d = -4:

Sum = (497/2)[-26 - 4(497-1)]

= 497/2 * -2010

= -499,485.

Here are two polygons on a grid. Is PQRST a scaled copy of ABCDE?
Bezzdna [24]

*see attachment showing the two polygons in a grid.

Answer:

No, PQRST is not a scale copy of ABCDE because we the sides are not increased proportionally.

Step-by-step explanation:

A polygon can be said to be a scaled copy of another polygon, if the the same scale factor is used in scaling every segment of the preimage or original image to get the length of the corresponding segments of the scale copy or image. In order words, all segments must be scaled proportionally.

Polygon PQRST, which is the new image, has different scale factors used in scaling the various segments of the preimage. In simple terms, the sides of PQRST were not increased proportionally. Therefore, PQRST is not a scaled copy of ABCDE.

One side of a rectangle is 3 times the length of another side. The difference in their lengths is 10 feet
elena55 [62]

Answer:

5 feet & 15 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The question is to find the lengths of 2 sides of the rectangle.

Solution:

Let shorter side be "x"

Let longer side be "y"

From the question, we can write:

y = 3x

also

y - x = 10

Now, putting the first on second equation, we get:

y - x = 10

3x - x = 10

2x = 10

x = 10/2 = 5

Now, y = 3x, y = 3(5) = 15

So we can say the lengths of 2 sides of the rectangle is 5 feet & 15 feet
