Thomas Augustus Watson was the assistant of Alexander Graham Bell when he invented the telephone in 1876. He was hired by Bell. He was the recipient of first telephone call. He was in the room that was adjacent to Bell's room. His name was one of the first few words that were spoken over the phone, the words were " <u><em>Mr.Watson- Come here- I want to see you"</em></u>. He left the Bell Telephone Company in 1881 and later became successful in the business of constructing naval destroyers. His shipyard , the Fore River Ship and Engine Company was later purchased by Bethlehem Steel Corporation.
