If f ( x ) is a linear function, f ( − 4 ) = − 4 , and f ( 4 ) = − 1 , find an equation for f ( x ) .
yan [13]

Step-by-step explanation:

linear function

y = ax + b

f(-4) = -4

x = -4

y = -4

-4 = a×-4 + b

f(4) = -1

x = 4

y = -1

-1 = 4a + b

sum both equations

-5 = 0 + 2b

b = -5/2

-1 = 4a - 5/2

3/2 = 4a

a = 3/2 / 4 = 3/8

the function would be

y = 3/8 x - 5/2

<em>x = 2</em>

  • Step-by-step explanation:

<em>Hi there ! </em>

<em>5x + 3 = 7x - 1</em>

<em>3 + 1 = 7x - 5x</em>

<em>4 = 2x</em>

<em>2x = 4</em>

<em>x = 4 : 2</em>

<em>x = 2</em>

Find the cube roots of 125(cos 288° + i sin 288°)
kow [346]
Let r(cos O + i sin O)  be a cube root of 125(cos 288 + i sin 288)
then
r^3(cos O + i sin O)^3  =  125(cos 288 + i sin 28)

so r^3 = 125  and  cos 3O + i sin 3O  =  cos 288 + i sin 288

so r  = 5  and 3O = 288 + 360p and O = 96 +  120p

so one cube root is   5 (cos 96 + i sin 96)

Im a little rusty at this stuff Its been a long time.

Im not sure of the other 2 roots

sorry cant help you any more
