Write the general equation for the circle that passes through the points (-5,0), (0.4), and (2,4).
Advocard [28]

Answer:

(x-1)^2+(y+19/8)^2=2665/64

Step-by-step explanation:

The general equation of a circle is

(x - h)^2 + (y - k)^2 = r^2

Substituting the values of the 3 given points:

(-5 - h)^2 + (0 - k)^2 = r^2

(0 - h)^2 + (4 - k)^2 = r^2

(2 - h)^2 + (4 -k)^2 = r^2

Subtracting the second equation from the first:

(-5-h)^2 - h^2 + k^2 - (4 - k)^2 = 0

25 + 10h + h^2 - h^2 + k^2 - 16 + 8k - k^2 = 0

10h + 8k = -9  ------------ (A).

Subtract the third equation for the second:

h^2 - (2 - h)^2 + 0 = 0

h^2 - 4 + 4h - h^2 = 0

4h = 4

h = 1.

Substituting for h in equation A:

10 + 8k = -9

8k = -19

k = -19/8

So r^2 = (-5-1)^2 + (0 + 19/8)^2 =

36  + 361/ 64

= 2665/64

Draw two segments. How many common points is it possible for the segments to have? Explore all possibilities.
Arte-miy333 [17]

A segment is bounded by two endpoints.

The two segments can have up to two common points

Assume the line segments are AB and CD where the length of AB is greater than the length of CD.

<u>The possibilities are:</u>

  • <em>A point of segment CD lies on segment AB</em>
  • <em>Both points of segment CD lie on segment AB.</em>

<em />

See attachment for both possibilities.

Hence, it is possible for the two segments to have two common points.

What is the GCF of (8x-6) <br><br>sos T-T
makvit [3.9K]

Hi student, let me help you out! :)

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

We are asked to find the G.C.F. of 8x-6.

\triangle~\fbox{\bf{KEY:}}

  • G.C.F. stands for Greatest Common Factor.

So what is the G.C.F. of 8x-6? We can list all of their common factors and then select the greatest one, like so:

\longmapsto\bf{Factors\;of\;8x:} 1, 2, 4, 8, x

\longmapsto\bf{Factors\;of\;-6:} -1, 1, 2, -3, 3, -6, 6

So the GCF is:

2

Now, we can also factor it out by placing it outside the parentheses ():

2(4x-3)

See, we factored it out by dividing both terms of the expression by the G.C.F.

\ddot\bigstar Remember this...

\fbox{\bf{We\;factor\;out\;the\;G.C.F.\;by\;dividing\;all\;the\;terms\;of\;the\;expression\;by\;it}}

Hope this helps you out! :D
