The Phoenicians were experts when it came to sailors. They were also credited for discovering how to use the North Star for navigation. Because of this the Phoenicians could sail on the open seas and also in the oceans. This navigation technique helped the Phoenicians no longer had to use the coastline as their navigational aid. This information was later on shared by the Phoenicians with the Greeks and other Mediterranean cultures.
