Splash World is considering purchasing a water park in Atlanta, Georgia, for $ 1,870,000 . The new facility will generate annua

l net cash inflows of $ 472,000 for eight years. Engineers estimate that the facility will remain useful for eight years and have no residual value. The company uses straight-line depreciation, and its stockholders demand an annual return of 12 % on investments of this nature.
Requirements

1. Compute the payback, the ARR, the NPV, the IRR, and the profitability index of this investment.

Answer:

1)

Payback period = Initial investment / Annul cash flow

Payback period = 1,880,000 / 480,000

Payback period = 3.92 years

2)

Accounting rate of return = Average cash flow / ( initial investment - book value) / 2

Accounting rate of return = 480,000 / ( 1,880,000 - 0)/2

Accounting rate of return = 0.5106 or 51.06%

3)

NPV = Present value of cash inflows - present value of cash outflows

NPV = 480,000 * 4.968 - 1,880,000

NPV = $504,640

4)

IRR is the rate of return that makes NPV equal to 0

NPV = Annuity * [ 1 - 1 / ( 1 + R)n] / R - initial investment

NPV = 480,000 * [ 1 - 1 / ( 1 + R)8] / R - 1,880,000

Using trial and error method, i.e, after using various values for R, let's try R as 19.32%

NPV = 480,000 * [ 1 - 1 / ( 1 + 0.1932)8] / 0.1932 - 1,880,000

NPV = 0

Therefore, IRR is 19.32%

Splash world should invest in the project as it has a positive NPV and and IRR greater than cost of capital

ENETEAU CORPORATION
4vir4ik [10]

Answer:

See below

Explanation:

Statement of cash flows for the year ended December 31, 2020 using the indirect method.

Cash flow from operating activities:

Net loss = $12,000

Adjustment to reconcile net loss with cash flows from operating activities:

Depreciation = ($20,000 + $10,000 - $13,000) = $7,000

Loss on sale of land = $2,000

Increase in accounts receivable = ($20,000)

Increase in prepaid expense = ($5,000)

Increase in accounts payable = $6,000

Net cash used in operating activities = ($12,000)

Cash flow from investing activities

Sale of land = ($40,000 - $18,000 - $2,000) = $20,000

Sale of equipment = $5,000

Net cash generated by investing activities = $25,000

Cash flow from financing activities

Retirement of bond = ($12,000)

Proceeds from issuance of bonds = $20,000

Net cash used by financing activities = $8,000

Net increase in cash = $6,000

Add: beginning cash balance = $31,000

Ending cash balance = $37,000

Workings

• Calculation of depreciation

The accumulated depreciation at the end of the year 2020 = ($20,000)

Hence;

Accumulated depreciation at the end of the year 2020 = ($13,000)

Increase in accumulated depreciation during 2020 = $20,000 - $13,000 = $7,000

Add: accumulated depreciation on equipment sold during 2017 = $10,000

Total depreciation expense for 2020 = $7,000 + $10,000 = $17,000

• Calculation of proceeds from sale of land:

Cost of land = $40,000 - $18,000 = $22,000

Loss on sale of land = $2,000

Therefore,

Proceeds from sale of land = cost of land sold - loss on sale of land

= $22,000 - $2,000

= $20,000

• Calculation of issuance of bonds payable during 2020

The bonds payable at the end of year 2019 = $19,000

Hence,

Bonds payable at the end of year 2020 = $27,000

Retirement of bonds during year 2020 = $12,000

Therefore,

Bonds issued during 2020 = $27,000 + $12,000 - $19,000 = $20,000

An oligopoly market is a form of imperfect competition where there are a few firms. These firms can produce identical or differentiated products. Because of a few firms in the market, there is a high degree of competition in the market.

These firms are interdependent such that the economic decisions of a firm affect its rivals. So each firm has to consider the reaction of its rivals before making decisions.

The firms are price makers and face a downward-sloping demand curve.
