Answer:

3x just means 3 is being multiplied. It just helps with knowing you're multiplying instead pf putting the multiplication sign (sorry if that confuses you) x3 (pretend 3 is at the top) means whatever x represents is going to be multiplied by itself 3 times. hope this helped!

Which expression is not equivalent to the other expressions?
emmainna [20.7K]

-4(3x + 6) is not equivalent to other expressions

Solution:

Let us use the distributive property to get the equivalent expression

Distributive property is represented as:

a(b + c) = ab + ac

First expression:

-6(2x - 4) = (-6 \times 2x) + (-6 \times -4) = -12x + 24

Second expression:

Using distributive property,

-(12x - 6) + 18 = -12x + 6 + 18 = -12x + 24

Third expression:

Solve the expression using distributive property

-3(4x-3) + 15 = ((-3 \times 4x)+(-3 \times -3)) \\\\-3(4x-3) + 15= -12x + 9 + 15 \\\\-3(4x-3) + 15=-12x + 24

Fourth expression:

-4(3x + 6)= -4 \times 3x + -4 \times 6\\\\-4(3x + 6)= -12x -24

Thus fourth expression is not equivalent to other expressions

A rectangle has a perimeter of 80 cm. If its width is x, express its length and area in terms of x, and find the maximum area.
Veseljchak [2.6K]
Perimiter=2L+2W

w=x
P=80

80=2L+2x
diviide by 2
40=L+x

40-L=x
40-x=L

the area is found by legnth times width
LW or Lx
for a maximum area, try to get the legnths of the sides the same
therefor
L=W=x for max area
40=x+x
40=2x
divide 2
20=x
max area =legnth times width=20^2=400

note: all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares

L=40-x
A=(40-x)(x)

max area=400 cm^2

Angles ABC and DBE are vertical angles where m∠ABC = (5x + 5)° and m∠DBE = (6x − 3)°.
Solnce55 [7]
Value of x when angles ABC and DBE are vertical angles where
M_ABC=(5x+ 5)° and m_DBE=(6x-3)° is 8°.
Vertical angles are complementary as there sum is 90°.
As given,
Part A:
Angles ABC and DBE are vertical angles m_ABC=(5x + 5)°
M¿DBE=(6x- 3)°
(5x+ 5\°=(6x - 31
=(6x - 5x)°=(5 +3)°
8°
Part B:
Vertical angles are complementary if there sum is 90°.
Here
m_ABC + m_DBE
5(8)+5 +6(8)-31°
= 90°

A boat is anchored 2.2 km due south of a lighthouse. Along the shore, the town of Beachton is 16.8 km due east of the lighthouse
pogonyaev

Answer:

16.9 km

Step-by-step explanation:

From the diagram attached, we can see that the problem forms a triangle.

So, to find the distance(d) from the boat to Beachton , we can make use of Pythagoreas theorem.

Thus;

d² = 16.8² + 2.2²

d² = 282.24 + 4.84

d² = 287.08

d = √287.08

d = 16.9434

Approximating to the nearest tenth, we have;

d ≈ 16.9 km
