The phylum Cycliophora was discovered in 1995. They are tiny organisms that live in large numbers on the outsides of the mouthpa

rts and appendages of lobsters. The feeding stage permanently attaches to the lobster via an adhesive disk and collects scraps of food from its host's feeding by capturing the scraps in a current created by a ring of cilia. The body is saclike and has a U-shaped intestine that brings the anus close to the mouth. Cycliophorans are coelomates, do not molt (though their host does), and their embryos undergo spiral cleavage. Basing your inferences on information in the paragraph, to which clades should cycliophorans belong?
A) Eumetazoa and BilateriaB) Eumetazoa and LophotrochozoaC) Deuterostomia and EcdysozoaD) Deuterostomia and Lophotrochozoa

How does the paragraph expand on the central idea that malaria was a deadly disease in elizabethan england? it proves that malar
Pani-rosa [81]
The original paragraph is: "Another familiar disease is malaria, which Elizabethans refer to as ague or fever. You might associate this with more tropical countries of the modern world but in marshy areas in sixteenth-century England, such as the Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire Fens, the Norfolk Broads, and Romney Marsh in Kent, it kills thousands. No one suspects that it has anything to do with mosquitoes; rather people believe it is the corrupted air arising from the ling dank marsh (hence the term mal-aria). As a result, you will have no chance of getting proper treatment for the disease."

The correct answer is "it explains the Elizabethan misconceptions about the spread of malaria."

This is because people of Elizabethan England did not suspect mosquitoes from the Marsh (since mosquitoes thrive in wet or damp environments) are the main animal vectors for malaria. Also, since the etiologic agent of malaria is not yet identified at that time, the treatment is almost impossible to give.

After ovulation, the oocyte:
STALIN [3.7K]

Answer:

C. releases chemotaxic signals to attract sperm to its location.

Explanation:

An oocyte is female gametocyte which is involved in the reproduction. It is produced in ovary during the female gametogenesis. After ovulation, during luteal phase, egg is available to be fertilized by the sperm.

Sperm are attracted toward the eggs by the process of chemotaxis which is by following the gradient of chemical secreted by egg.

Thus, the oocytes in the female body control not only type of sperm they want ot attract, but also time at which they attract them.

Mr. L was walking through the woods wearing shorts and sandals. He noticed a small tick on his ankle the same evening, and sever
il63 [147K]

Answer:

Protozoa

Explanation:

The long, wavelike cells seen under the microscope would most likely be protozoa and the microorganism responsible for Mr. L's symptoms.

Tick as a vector is capable of causing diseases such as lyme disease, anaplasmosis, babesiosis, Powassan virus disease, tularemia, and a host of other diseases. Among all the diseases, babesiosis is particularly caused by a protozoan known as Babesia microti and it elicits malaria-like symptoms in individuals. Most of the other diseases are caused by bacteria pathogens while a few are caused by virus.

Apart from the above, the morphological characterization of the microorganism responsible for Mr. L's disease is typical for protozoans. Many of them are long and flagellated with a wave-like motion as a movement.

Hence, the case of Mr. L would be that of protozoa.
