Illusory correlation is a concept in psychology that describes the perception arising from relating two variables that have no real relationship. Variables could be people, events, behaviors, actions, which are paired together to form relationship perceptions, which are only imaginary and are formed based on on our personal bias or due to lack of enough information. An example of illusory correlation is when someone states or have the perception that people who live in the city are rude, which in actual sense might not be true based on facts. Such perception might have been formed based on bias or due to misinformation or unfortunate experience that possess little information.
