Summarizing How Theme Develops in "One Goal"

English
1 answer:
Vera_Pavlovna [14]3 years ago

"The Black Cat" by Edgar Allan Poe has a theme of violence. Once again Poe uses the device of the unreliable narrator to weave a tale of horror and violence, stemming from the narrator's craven urge to destroy his family and pets. The theme in the story also develops as the protagonist.the moral the narrator learned was that violence against animals leads to bad things. the author develops the theme perfectly by blending the literary devices to create a story where the protagonist learns a valuable lesson.

in a group discussion, which statement most clearly uses evidence to support a conclusion? a. the author makes some good points,
Citrus2011 [14]

Answer: C) The author proves that he's biased when he uses terms like "silly" and "stupid."

Explanation: The words "silly" and "stupid" are the only instances of evidence among the options, since they were taken directly from the text that is being discussed. The closest example of bringing the text's content into the discussion is in option C (stating what the author has expressed), but that option doesn't present any conclusion. Option A is presented as a personal opinion with a vague origin ("I feel") and option B tries to back the presented conclusion with an assumption ("the author obviously hates [...] fast food") instead of evidence.

Juli2301 [7.4K]
Quotations add emphasis to ideas, so A is out. If quotations add emphasis to ideas then they also add strong support to claims therefore C is out. Quotations add credibility to writing as well so D is out. Therefore B is the right answer, you would not include direct quotations in a story to add length to a  boring story.
