Continuous drought has the potential to lead to a large-scale death in the community and in an extreme case even the whole community could be killed.
If the community survives such a drought however, it could learn to defend itself, for example by storing rainwater in special containers.

Cellular respiration uses oxygen in the chemical reaction that releases energy from food. Fermentation occurs in an anaerobic or oxygen-depleted environment. Because fermentation doesn't use oxygen, the sugar molecule doesn't break down completely and so releases less energy.
