How were white peoples lives similar and different in the southern and northern during civil war times?

Everyone was suffering during the war because of towns being pillaged but in the north there were a lot of factories and in the south there were few factories and a lot of farms with slaves.

Well, All I know is that In the south they were mostly plantations, thus the need for slaves.  And in the north, it was mostly city, with a few SMALL farms
