The price of the present is  £45.

<u>Step-by-step explanation</u>:

<u>step 1</u> :

Let,

Savings of Fred = 3x

Savings of George = 4x

<u>step 2</u> :

share of Fred = 2y

share of George = 3y

∴ Total cost of the gift = 2y + 3y = 5y

<u>step 3</u> :

According to the question given,

Fred has already spent half of his money = 3x - 2y = (1/2)3x

George only has £21 left over = 4x - 3y = 21

<u>step 4</u> :

solve for x in the first equation,

3x - (3/2)x = 2y

6x - 3x = 4y

3x = 4y

x = (4/3)y

<u>step 5</u> :

substitute x=(4/3)y in the second equation to find y,

4x - 3y = 21

4(4/3)y - 3y = 21

(16/3)y - 3y = 21

16y - 9y = 63

7y = 63

y = 9

<u>step 6</u> :

The total cost of the gift = 2y + 3y

Price of the present         = 5y = 5\times9 = 45

Which is the value of this expression when a=5 and k=-2
Zinaida [17]

Answer:

Option C is correct.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the expression:

(\frac{3^2a^{-2}}{3a^{-1}})^k

The value of a =5 and k = -2

Putting the values and solving

=(\frac{3^2*5^{-2}}{3*5^{-1}})^-2\\=(\frac{3^{2-1}}{5^{-1+2}})^-2\\=(\frac{3^{1}}{5^{1}})^-2\\\\=(\frac{3}{5})^-2\\if \,\,a^{-1} \,\,then\,\, 1/a\\=\frac{(3)^{-2}}{(5)^{-2}}\\ Can\,\,be\,\,written\,\,as\\\\=\frac{(5)^{2}}{(3)^{2}} \\=\frac{25}{9}

Option C is correct.

Naya [18.7K]

Answer: d) 0.31

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : In a health club, research shows that on average, patrons spend an average of 42.5 minutes on the treadmill, with a standard deviation of 5.4 minutes.

i.e. \mu=42.5 and \sigma= 5.4

It is assumed that this is a normally distributed variable.

Let x denotes the time spend by a person on treadmill.

Then, the probability that randomly selected individual would spent between 30 and 40 minutes on the treadmill.

P(30

Hence, the required probability = 0.31

Thus , the correct answer = d) 0.31
