I would go with the second answer choice in that it identifies the paper’s purpose. If you must explain why you chose that answer, explain how verbs like “explains,” “summarizes,” “proclaims,” “argues,” “illustrates,” and “persuades” alons with others give insight to what a paper’s purpose will be. For example, something that argues is clearly an argumentative essay, etc etc. Hope this helps!
