In an average of 65 minutes if a train stops at three stations for two minutes each and the distance is 115 miles between stops
larisa86 [58]

Answer:

117mph

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that

Total number of stations= 3

Total average time of journey of train = 65

total stop time at three stations = 3×2 =6 min

Total distance between stops = 115 miles

as we can see

Total time train was travelling = 65- 6 =59 min

so, average speed of train can be calculated as:

Average Speed = \frac{Distance -travelled-between -stations}{Total-time-the-train-travelled}

Average Speed = \frac{115}{59} =1.95 miles/minute

To convert this speed into miles per hour (mph) multiply the above speed by 60

Average speed = 60×1.95 =117 mph

So the average speed of train is 117mph.

The cost of oranges in a grocery store is directly proportional to the number of oranges purchased. Jerri payed $2.52 for 6 oran
ExtremeBDS [4]

Answer: option A is the correct answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

The cost of oranges in a grocery store is directly proportional to the number of oranges purchased. Jerri paid $2.52 for 6 oranges.

If p represents the cost, in dollars,and n represents the number of oranges purchased, then introducing a proportionality constant, k, the equation becomes

p = kn

2.52 = k × 6

k = 2.52/6 = 0.42

Therefore, the equation representing the relationship is

p = 0.42n

I need to know the solution to this
Alex73 [517]
There are two ways to do this but the way I prefer is to make one of the equations in terms of one variable and then 'plug this in' to the second equation. I will demonstrate

Look at equation 1, -2x+y=10 this can quite easily be manipulated to show y=10+2x.

Then because there is a y in the second equation (and both equations are simultaneous) we can 'plug in' our new equation where y is in the second one 4x-y=-14 \Rightarrow 4x-(10+2x)=-14 which can then be solved for x since there is only one variable 4x-10-2x=-14 \Rightarrow 2x=-4 \Rightarrow x=-2 and then with our x solution we can work out our y solution by using the equation we manipulated y=10+2x = 10+(2 \times -2) = 10-4=6.

So the solution to these equations is x=-2 when y=6
