A criminalist analyzes physical data/evidence from a crime scene to gain more insight of a criminal. Forensics do the same exact thing, but instead they go a little more in depth to acquire things such as fingerprints and/or DNA to gain insight of a suspect. Criminalists use forensics all the time to increase knowledge of an accused.

I would say Psychology. Criminalists are always studying human behavior and the reasoning behind the actions. Hope this help!
