Answer: The question is incomplete, below is the complete question.

Which statement describes a way to treat diabetes through nutritional choices? A; choose a diet that is high in red meats. B; consume foods that have added sugar. C; incorporate a large amount of refined carbohydrates into the diet. D; consume fewer sugars.

The correct answer is D

Consume fewer sugars.

Explanation: Diet is the major factor in the control of diabetes, the proportion of calories allocated to each food food type is approximately (54-60%) Carbohydrates, (12-20%) Protein and less than 30% fats .

Carbohydrate foods such as simple sugars, sweets, jam, honey, beverages should be strictly limited and only permitted as part of meal to prevent rapid increase in blood sugar levels. Unrefined carbohydrates, beans, unripe plantain, potatoes, millets,Guinea corn with fibre such as whole grain breads, and cereals, fruits and vegetables should be substituted for refined carbohydrate in daily diet.

Foods with a high soluble fibre content improve glucose tolerance, lower insulin secretion, reduce blood sugar level (hyperglycemia),and reduce the amount of glucose in urine (glucosuria). Examples of food high in soluble fibre include, rice and corn legumes.

Diets should be strictly monitored and careful insulin administration should be ensured.

Diabetes if properly managed won't result in diabetic coma, diabetic ketoacidosis or any other complications of diabetes.
