Some push factors of human migration: 
Push factors are factors that push people AWAY from a country
War - war is never a good thing, people want to find a better place to live
Environmental problems - huge forest fire, hurricane, volcano eruptions,etc. 

Pull factors are factors that ATTRACT and make people want to come to a country
Education - good education = better future
Weather and Climate - some people prefer certain types of climates, they look specifically for countries that meets their living conditions
Tourist Attractions - cool places to explore and make memories

The result of the stalemate that developed in the Western front during WW1was that this Western front remained static, killing many soldiers of either side but not real progress at all. It resulted in so much attrition. Both sides tried to wear the opponent down killing as many soldiers as possible. This resulted in a stalemate in the trenches, no progress to either side. Such as a deadlock that stayed for a long time.
