Psychoeducation is used along with treatment to make the lives of patient and their caretakers easy. It aims to educate them about the disease and ways to cope with it. It imparts good communication and problem solving skills to patients and related people so that they are ready for any situation and understand the condition of patient fully. It is used for mental disorders like eating disorders, bipolar, schizophrenia etc. It can also be used for physical disorders like cancer and diabetes.

Psychoeducation is ordinarily used early in the treatment process. This is done because patient and his caretakers should be made clear about everything right from the start. By getting educated early they are prepared for every situation and can take appropriate measures on time. The more it is delayed, lesser will it be effective.
