La Edad Media o la Edad Obscura, fue un tiempo en la historia de la Humanidad en la que los monarcas y reyes eran amos absolutos de grandes porciones de territorios en Europa. La gente pobre y campesinos, a penas vivían bajo los caprichos de los monarcas. Y la iglesia, se alió con las monarquías para apoyarse mutuamente y mantener su poder.

Entonces, la mencionada renovación fue el resultado de la decadencia del sistema feudal que mantenía sometidos a la gente pobre, y coincidió con las invasiones y guerras como las famosas Cruzadas, en donde Católicos y Musulmanes pelearon por años por el control de la ciudad sagrada de Jerusalém y el reconocido templo de Salomón.

Algunos mercaderes y hombres de negocios fueron teniendo más presencia en algunos lugares, por lo que esta Burguesía comenzó a representar un contrapeso a los poderes absolutos del rey. Lo cual fue otro factor de cambio.

Finalmente, la mortandad que resultó por la pandemia provocada por la peste negra entre 1347 y 1353, causó estragos por todo Europa.
