The evolution of analogous structures is called convergent evolution which occurs due to different organisms exploiting the same environment. Divergent evolution is basic structural forms of organs with the same embryonic origin are modified to serve different functions because of exploiting different ecological niche. Parallel evolution occurs when two species evolve independently of each other, maintaining the same level of similarity. Parallel evolution usually occurs between unrelated species that do not occupy the same or similar niches in a given habitat.
