To get x/y, you need to know the values of "x" and "y".
So, we'll need 2 equations.
Where are they?
Let's see, you have a ratio isn't it?

You can make two equn: out of them.
e.g. in 1/3, multiplying both numerator and denominator with 4 will give you 4/12. So, you can write as 1 x 4 = 4 and 3 x 4 = 12.
Similarly, in the given ratio
(x+y)/(x-y) = a/b, we may write

x + y = ak -----(1)
x - y = bk -----(2) where "k" is a constant.

equn: (1) + (2) ---> 2x = k (a+b)

therefore, x = k(a+b)/2
and you will get y = ak - k(a+b)/2

y = k (a-b)/2

Therefore, x/y = (a+b)/(a-b)

Dwayne buys ingredients to make a cake. He buys 1 1/2 pounds of flour, 12 ounces of coconut, and 1 1/4 pounds of sugar. What is
AVprozaik [17]

Answer:

3.05 or 31/2 pounds

56 ounces

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the total weight all the weights have to have the same units of measurements

It is either pounds is converted to ounces or ounces is converted to pounds

1. convert ounces to pound

1 ounce = 0.0625

12 ounces = 0.0625 x 12 = 0.75 pounds or 3/4

add together = 1 1/2 + 3/4 + 1 1/4 = 1\frac{1}{2} + \frac{3}{4}  + 1\frac{1}{4}

2\frac{2 +3 + 1}{4} = 2\frac{6}{4} = 3 1/2

2. 16 ounces = 1 pound

flour = 16 x 1 1/2 = 24

sugar = 16 x 1 1/4 = 20

total = 24 + 20 + 12 = 56 ounces

What are the zeros of the graphed function y = (x + 3)(x + 5)?
tensa zangetsu [6.8K]
Y=(x+3)(x+5)
0=(x+3)(x+5)
0=x+3
Subtract three on both sides
-3=x
0=x+5
Subtract five on both sides
-5=x
So, -3 and -5 are the zeros of the graphed function.
Hope I helped!
