Resource Room prints custom training material for corporations. The business was started January 1, 2017. The company uses a nor

mal-costing system. It has two direct-cost pools, materials and labor, and one indirect-cost pool, overhead. Overhead is charged to printing jobs on the basis of direct labor cost. The following information is available for 2017.
Budgeted direct labor costs……………$190,000
Budgeted overhead costs………………$266,000
Costs of actual material used………….$158,000
Actual direct labor costs…………………..$175,000
Actual overhead costs…………………….$247,200

There were two jobs in process on December 31, 2017: Job 11 and Job 12. Costs added to each job as of December 31 are as follows:

Direct Material Direct Labour
Job 11 $4,720 $5,700
Job 12 $5,090 $6,900

Resource Room has no finished-goods inventories because all printing jobs are transferred to cost of goods sold when completed.

Required:
a. Compute the overhead allocation rate.
b. Calculate the balance in ending work in process and cost of goods sold before any adjustments for under- or overallocated overhead.
c. Calculate under- or overallocated overhead.
d. Calculate the ending balances in work in process and cost of goods sold if the under- or overallocated overhead amount is as follows:

i. Written off to cost of goods sold
ii. Prorated using the overhead allocated in 2017 (before proration) in the ending balances of cost of goods sold and work-in-process control accounts

g. Which of the methods in requirement 4 would you choose? Explain.

Research any three successful entrepreneurs of your choice.
charle [14.2K]

Answer:

1. Andrew Carnegie

You probably recognize Andrew Carnegie’s name, since he’s one of the most famous and richest industrialists of all time. However, he didn’t accumulate his wealth as a result of formal education or a business-charged background. Instead, he dropped out of school at a young age and spent the major portion of his youth performing manual labor. He was a bobbin boy at a local cotton mill and then became a telegraph messenger. It wasn’t until he taught himself how to read and entered the railroad industry that he began to build the empire that would make him (and his family) a fortune.

2. John Paul DeJoria

You may not have heard of John Paul DeJoria, but you’ve certainly indulged in some of the beauty products attached to his name. Now a multi-billionaire and one of the most accomplished entrepreneurs in modern history, DeJoria got his start as a newspaper courier. To make ends meet, he worked as a tow truck driver and a janitor. Eventually, he found his way to working at a hair-care company, where he met his future partner, Paul Mitchell. With minimal experience and a $700 loan, the duo founded a company now known as John Paul Mitchell Systems. From there, DeJoria co-founded Patron Spirits and the House of Blues.

3. Harland Sanders

If someone asked you for a loan to start a restaurant, but had no formal culinary training or experience, would you make that loan? It seems crazy to think anyone could become a successful restauranteur without a background in the industry, but that’s exactly what Harlan “Colonel” Sanders was able to do. When he started his line of Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants, the only experience he had was cooking for his siblings as a child and working at a number of odd jobs.

sladkih [1.3K]

Answer:

a. The shareholders will want to tender their shares.

c.  The gain will be $25.31 million – $23.44 million = $1.87 million.

Explanation:

a. The value of the firm is 1.25 million shares* 15= $18.75 million.

Increase in value, 18.75*135% = $25.31 million, so now this is the value of the firm

If 50% of the shares are bought for $18.75 Million, you will buy 0.625 million shares, so the total amount that will be paid is $11.72 million.

Now, the money against shares will be borrowed as collateral. This means that the new value of the equity will be $25.31 million – $11.72 million = 13.59 million.

1.25 million shares are there so now the price of the share will be  =  $10.87 million ($13.59 million/$1.25 million = $ 10.87 million).

b.The price of the shares has decreased from $13.59 to $10.87 after the tender offer, everyone will want to tender their shares for $18.75.

c. Supposing everyone tenders the shares and you will buy at $18.75 per share, you will pay $23.44 (18.75 per share *1.25 million shares) to acquire the company and it will be worth $25.31 million.

The gain will be $25.31 million – $23.44 million = $1.87 million.
