Answer:

City leaders encouraged farmers to grow crops other than cotton.

Explanation:

The economic lives of planters, former slaves, and non slave holding whites, were transformed after the Civil War.

During Reconstruction, many small white farmers, thrown into poverty by the war, entered into cotton production, a major change from prewar days when they concentrated on growing food for their own families.

City leaders encouraged farmers to grow crops other than cotton

The southerners were faced with many problems during reconstruction. They have to devise another system of labor to cope with an economy without slavery. It was so hard for farmers to cope.

Further Explanation

During reconstruction, many white farmers found it so hard to cater for their family also because thousands of acres of cotton were destroyed by the boll weevil.

At that point, the prices of cotton reduce drastically, and the city leaders recommend that farmers should grow crops other than cotton. They encourage farmers to place more emphasis on vegetables, livestock, poultry and many more.

After the American Revolution, the major crops in Atlanta were cotton and tobacco. The cotton was invented by Eli Whitney in 1793.

During reconstructions, the shattered world of slavery damaged farming practices in Atlanta and the production of cotton reduced significantly.

When the American civil war ended, Atlanta was faced with lots of problems, there were environmental damages and the farmers couldn’t maintain the labor force without slavery, the weather condition at that time was also not suitable.

The production of cotton felled from 700,000 bales to less than 50,000 within 1860 and 1865.

why did civil rights leaders expect that world war 2 would help their movement reach its goals more quickly?
Naddik [55]

The general consensus amongst the Civil Rights leaders during World War II was that the fighting in World War II would advance the cause of the Civil Rights movement as people would see the paradox of discriminating against the very people who were helping to protect American values by fighting for their country.
