Explanation:

Ice core is a sample of ice drilled from ice sheet of high mountain glacier, particularly in Greenland and Antarctica. The drill can be depth of 3.2km . The ice core can be used to know how the ice spreading during glacial and interglacial period. The ice core can tell us about past climatic information and also the possible track of future climatic change.

  • Ice is considered to be the best preserver of fossils . Many great mammals like mammoth, dinosaurs etc were identified and analysed from the remains which were found in antarctic region.

  • The ice also has bubbles of trapped gas that reveals the old volcanic eruptions and gives us an idea about the earth's early atmosphere.

  • Scientist spend many years exploring the ice caps of poles and other area and have succeeded in gathering a huge information about the above points.
