Phytoplankton are eukaryotic organisms which has the ability to converts solar energy into the chemical energy in the process of photosynthesis. They are also called autotrophic organisms i. e. make their own food like plants but they are not plant. They are basically algae while whale is a eukaryotic mammals which are heterotrophic in nature which means they are unable to make their own food.

On the other hand, developing of spots that resemble eyes can be advantageous, since it enables the holder of the trait to be more successful and more likely to leave offspring.
