This is not an arithmetic sequence.  All arithmetic sequences have a common difference.  Every term has a constant difference to the term before it.

In this case...

-3-2=-5

4.5--3=7.5  so there is no common difference.

All geometric sequences have a common ratio, each term is a constant ratio when compared to the previous term...this is a geometric sequence because:

-3/2=4.5/3=-6.5/4.5=-3/2 or -1.5  This is the common ratio.

This sequence can be expresses as

(-3/2)(an)=a(n+1)

However we normally express a geometric sequence as:

a(n)=ar^(n-1), where a is the first term, r is the common ratio, and n is the term number...

We have a=2, r=-3/2 and we want to know the 15 term...

a(15)=2(-3/2)^14=4797969/8192

Two planes, which are 3400 miles apart, fly toward each other. Their speeds differ by 80mph. If they pass each other in 5 hours,
Andreas93 [3]

Answer : The speed of both planes is 61.25 mph and 18.75 mph  respectively.

Explanation:

Let the speed of first plane be x mph

Let the speed of second plane be y mph

Since we have given that difference of speeds is 80 mph

i.e.  x - y= 80   (Eq^n   1)

Distance between two planes = 3400 miles

As they are flying towards each other i.e. they are in the opposite direction.

So, Relative speed  will  be the sum of their speeds i.e.

Relative speed = x + y

And we know speed = \frac{Distance}{Time}

Speed= \frac{3400}{80}

⇒ Speed = 42.5 mph

Hence, Relative speed becomes 42.5 mph

⇒ x+y=42.5  (Eq^n   2)

Now, by using the elimination method of solving the system of equation, we  have ,

x= 61.25 mph

and y = 18.75 mph

the area on the wall covered by a rectangle is 320 square inches. The length of the poster is 1.25 times longer than the width o
gladu [14]
To answer this question you will think of the length and the width as the following:
Length- 1.25w
Width-w

Using this you can then substitute in the information in your formula for finding the area of a rectangle.

A = lw
320 = 1.25w(w)
320 = 1.25 w^2; divide both sides by 1.25

256 = w^2; find the square root of both sides

w = 16 in

l = 1.25 x 16
l = 20 inches

The dimensions are a width of 16 inches and a length of 20 inches.
