Answer:

The dense cloud of luminescent ionized gas protruding from the chromosphere of the Sun into the corona is termed as solar prominence. The prominences on certain occasions extend thousands of kilometers above the chromosphere of the Sun. The reasons for the solar prominences are not clear, however, they involve intense magnetic forces.  

The prominences differ considerably in shape, size, and motion and are of two prime kinds, that is, quiescent and active. The solar prominences may form over timescales for a day and may prevail in the corona for many weeks or months, and loop hundreds of thousands of miles into space.
