7 0
Differences
1. Meiosis occurs in two divisions, resulting in four haploid cells. Mitosis, however, occurs in one division, resulting in two diploid cells.
2. Mitosis produces body cells, which are used for purposes of growth and repair. Meiosis, however, produces gametes, which are used in sexual reproduction.
3. Mitosis produces two identical daughter cells, but meiosis increases genetic variation by undergoing crossing over an independent assortment. The resulting daughter cells of meiosis are genetically unique to the parent cell.

Similarities
1. Both processes are completed in a specific order that is heavily monitored to ensure that errors do not occur.
2. Both processes proceed DNA replication as well as growth phases.
3. Both processes have at least one phase in which the sister chromatids separate; in the case of meiosis, it is anaphase II, and in mitosis, it is anaphase.

The epithelial cells in the skin of an animal have 24 chromosomes. How many chromosomes are present in the gametes of this anima
mrs_skeptik [129]

Answer:

There will be 12 chromosomes

Explanation:

We have given that The epithelial cells in the skin of an animal have 24 chromosomes

We have to find the number of chromosomes present in the gametes of this animal

We know that number of chromosomes present in the gametes is given by

\frac{number\ of\ chromosmes\ present\ in\ skin}{2}

So number of chromosomes in gametes =\frac{24}{2}=12chromosomes

Describe the amount of freshwater on earth and where it is used and stored
Sergeeva-Olga [200]

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, most of that three percent is inaccessible. Over 68 percent of the fresh water on Earth is found in icecaps and glaciers, and just over 30 percent is found in ground water. Only about 0.3 percent of our fresh water is found in the surface water of lakes, rivers, and swamps. The use for the water in the world is for household drinking water. The ocean stores about 97 percent of the Earth's water; the remaining three percent is stored in glaciers and ice, below the ground, in rivers and lakes. Of the world's total water supply of about 332 million cubic miles of water, about 97 percent is stored in the ocean.

Hope this helps!
