$log_ab=c$ means $a^c=b$
so

$log_4(x+4)=1$ means $4^1=x+4$
4=x+4
minus 4 both sides
x=0

a fun tip is
if you get $log_a(b)=1$, then a=b

Log rule: $\log_a(b)=x\leftrightarrow a^x=b$
By that rule, $\log_4(x+4)=1\leftrightarrow 4^1=x+4$
We know that $4^1=4$ so we now have $4=x+4$
Subtract 4 from both sides and you get x=0.
