It was when Lonnie Smith went to vote for the Democratic primaries and was denied vote by the all-whites-primaries which had disenfranchised thousands of black people in Texas at the time, that NAACP Legal Defense Fund took up the case, filling a suit against the preccint election judge, AllWright based on 14th and 15th Amendment rights. NAACP won in Supreme Court appeal after failing in federal court ruling.

Conductor- An individual who escorted slaves between "stations" or safe houses.

Station- Hiding places in safe houses

Lines- A route slaves took north to freedom

Freight- Escaped slaves
